Since
the 9/11 of 2001, security costs added across the full spectrum of
transportation and tourism business worldwide were put at
20%.
In
other words, travelers each end up paying 20% extra for security
reasons and it
will continue indefinitely.
Why are terrorists increasingly targeting airports? It is easy to guess. The damage can be maximum for a minimum operational force. The impact and shock can be international, and ever-lasting. Even terror plot hoaxes can be more than enough to terrify the whole world. As a result, aviation security level will remain tense enough to stay on 24-hour alert, only to cost you arms and legs. Even worse, they have to suffer longer and tormenting delays in line for security checks at airports and other transportation hubs. The ripple effect of added transport security risks can only be compared to the South Asian mega tsunami of 2006 that killed almost half a million. Man has created this suffering, not God, and it is man who ought to solve it. Even more elusive types and materials of security threats are being contrived by terrorists and are laid in ambush for massive hits. To counter the ever-mounting security threats, mass surveillance technologies and security measures have been worked out, but terror threats are hard to catch up with and seem to be one step ahead. Man on the Earth is confronted with this faceless enemy in ambush everywhere. What is ECHELON? To intercept all kinds of radiowave communciations across the Earth, ECHELON has been in service since the Cold War. Though ECHELON has some technical limits, and is admittedly not much extensive as expected, a new location-based mass surveillance system should be married with this global surveillance system so as to look into every nook and cranny in search for faceless and hidden security threats. Why EMP can be more threatening than anything else? Some scientists and politicians have warned that the ultimate threats from terrorists can be EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) that can only be possible through extensive collaboration with a rogue nation. Theoretically, EMP can paralyze the nationwide computer networks in a second and the entire recovery will take more than six months, according to experts.
For the same reason, Russia is on alert to send up its own GPS satellites into orbit, just in case the ongoing US monopoly of GPS satellie operations may affect their military defense as a whole. So Russian entrepreneurs are spurring prodcution of more market-responsive GPS navigators. Man needs new algorithms for transport security To cast a wider net for terror suspects and security threats, location-based mass surveillance and such a global surveillance system as ECHELON should work hand in hand. Lately, U.S. airports started to adopt "frequent flyer registration" programs, under which trusted passengers' biometric data are stored in the airport database for authentication purposes and those registered passengers are given faster and easier security checks in a separate line. Ostensibly, this program is based on the hopes of maximizing the number of the registered, but actually leans toward segregative fallacy. It is the same fallacy as tollbooth configurations entailing motorists to cash, carpool and RFID tags, thereby causing the weakest link. Concept rudimentary Whatever new techniques might have been embedded in the RFID & biometrics technology, the basic concept in this technology is rudimentary: read and scan people one by one through a set of equipment to replace human inspecting eyes. To read people through a set of equipment, they should come closer in line to the equipment. And they are scanned passively. This is a "think inside the line or queue on the premise" technology, based on FIFO(First In First Out). New algorithms for mass surveillance Surveillance techniques should be differentiated between incoming and outgoing passengers. A "think outside the premise" algorithm is to be worked out. Tens of thousand people are rushing to an aiport daily and leaving after some time. CCTV cameras are on everywhere, but CCTV cameras don't think as fast as human brains. CCTV cameras take endless shots at vehicles and people arrriving and leaving, but the CCTV cameras don't think logically and don't read the innnermost minds of people. There surely is a way to read and harness this mass of human minds. This is how new mass surveillance should be Primarily, blanket surveillance for incoming vehicles can be computerized in an interactive way, not in a passive way, and analyzed with their consent only. The effect of mass surveillance of vehicles is always greater than that of people waiting in line. Secondly, targeted surveillance and subsequent surgical screening process of terror suspects by their vehicles can be made, based on the sorted data received from the vehicles. Finally, those singled out will be given added weght to undergo thorough physical security checks. On the other side of the coin, incoming passengers will be screened one by one by RFID & biometrics technology. But there still is a secured avenue of looking into any possble connection with vehicles visiting the airport becasue there are people in the vehicles. This mass surveillance can be implemented through DriveOnPay™.
